February 7, 2021 marks the 15 year anniversary of J Dilla’s Donuts. It was his second studio album and would later be recognised as one of the most important records of the 2000s. It’s the final masterpiece of an artist whose influence still stretches into today’s hip-hop scene. With this digital experience we try to commemorate his legacy, but, furthermore, let old time fans and newcomers immerse themselves into the thirty-one carefully crafted tracks. His remarkable way of using samplers and drum machines (sometimes incomprehensible, yet still so emotive) truly makes Donuts a work of pure art. Every track is surrounded by handpicked fan videos, symbolising the inspiration that he still sparks to many around the world. In our eyes, there is no better way to honor his work than through listening to the music he made.
